I am so far behind in posting on our Five in a Row books, but I am now attempting to catch up! Last September I spent two weeks rowing a wonderful book from Volume 1 called “Who Owns The Sun?” with my youngest three.
I decided to take a day off from our regular Homeschool “book work” on Columbus Day this year (Oct. 9th, a few weeks ago). I used a few resources and put together a small one day unit study for all 4 of the kids. It turned out great and the kids were excited to have a change of pace.
I thought I would share with you what all we did. I started with looking in my Five in a Row Holiday book and my Early Childhood Almanac for ideas. I love both of these books, they have wonderful ideas for holidays all through the year. I also looked on Pinterest a little bit and found a few things to do there.
Popstar is completing Volumes 2 and 3 of Beyond Five in a Row for this school year. Her first book from Volume 1 was Sarah, Plain and Tall. She started it back in August and finished up in September. This is such a wonderful book and there were so many fun activities that go along with it!
We had so much fun at the Carolina Renaissance Festival Student Days last week! Jason and I have been several times by ourselves over the years, but this was the first time we took the kids. We had such a great day! I thought I would share some pictures with you of our day…
Hi everyone! I decided a few weeks ago to purchase an Essential Oil Diffuser for our school room to see if it would help us any. I had heard a lot of other homeschoolers talk about them and figured I’d give it a try. In the past, we’ve used Lavender oil for calming and so I thought it may help our school days to be more peaceful.
I didn’t do a whole lot of research, I just looked on Amazon and chose one that was in my price range, was a good seller and had a lot of good reviews. I chose this one: URPOWER 2nd Version Essential Oil Diffuser.
Back at the end of August, I finished up our second Five in a Row book with Flash, Hulk and Princess. The book was Gramma’s Walk by Anna Grossnickle Hines. We had a lot of fun with this book. Most of our focus was on the beach, ocean, lighthouses, etc. and that is always fun! We spent two weeks in August on this book.
For this school year, 2017-2018, I am going to be doing The Frances Study Guide by Valerie Bendt with Princess. This will be her Kindergarten year of school and I thought it would be fun for both of us. This study guide covers the 6 books in the series about the little badger named Frances: Bedtime for Frances, A Baby Sister For Frances, Bread and Jam for Frances, A Birthday for Frances, Best Friends for Frances and A Bargain for Frances. These books are wonderful and the study guide is laid out somewhat like Five in a Row/Unit Study approach.
I have scheduled to cover one of these books with Princess each month and we will be doing them only about 2 days a week, about 1-2 activities each day. The activities are so neat and I think Princess will have a great time and it can be her one-on-one time with Mommy.
Our first book was Bedtime for Frances. We worked on this book during the month of August and Princess loved it.
This school year I am doing a mixture of Five in a Row Volumes 1, 2 & 3 with Flash, Hulk and Princess together. We recently finished our first FIAR row of the new school year with the book Henry the Castaway from FIAR Volume 3. It was such a fun book and a great way to start our new school year!
We began our new school year last week and are slowly getting adjusted after a wonderful summer! I thought I would share a few “First Day of School” pictures…
