We are incredibly blessed that one of our neighbors has an organic blueberry farm in their backyard! They open up in June and July for people to pick your own. We went the other week and picked an entire gallon. In our family, only a few of us enjoy blueberries and so I decided to freeze most of them so I can use them later for muffins and pancakes.
I thought I would share with you how I freeze blueberries. It is so much easier than you may think!
First I wash the berries, then pat them dry. Next, I place a sheet of wax paper on a large baking pan. Then I spread the berries in one layer on the pan.
I place the pan in the freezer until they are frozen through, which takes a few hours. After they are frozen I simply pour them into freezer bags. You can use a marker and write the date on the bag also, if you want. After that, I just put them in the freezer and take out however many at a time that I need to use. They will probably last about 6 months this way. Just make sure they are freezer bags and not regular bags.
So that is how I freeze blueberries. Honestly, it only took me a few minutes to do this and it was so easy! I’d love to hear if anyone does it differently. Please feel free to comment!
