Popstar finished up Chapter 15 of her Beyond Five in a Row book, Thomas A. Edison Young Inventor, back in March.
(Please note: This post contains lessons from the Beyond Five in a Row Volume 1 Manual as well as activities added by me and inspired by other homeschool moms.)
Chapter 15 is called “An Explosion” and in this chapter, Tom’s newspaper continues to do well and Tom is continuing to work at his Laboratory on the train. The train hits a rough track and some of Tom’s chemicals cause a horrible explosion. The conductor forces Tom to close up his lab and move off the train along with his printing press. Tom is devastated. He does get his old job back later, but is not allowed to have his lab on the train anymore. He ends up getting a job at the telegraph office.
We spent one school day on this chapter.
Day One: Popstar read the chapter and answered the Writing/Discussion Questions in her notebook. After that, we read over the History/Geography Lesson on Newspaper Editor. We talked about what they do for a job and also went over the Career Path lesson on Journalism. We looked up on You Tube about what a Journalist does.
We found this short video on the history of Journalism. It was pretty interesting.
So that was all we did for Chapter 15. Chapter 16 coming up next!
