Popstar did Chapter 13 of her Beyond Five in a Row book, Thomas A. Edison Young Inventor back in March.

(Please note: This post contains lessons from the Beyond Five in a Row Volume 1 Manual as well as activities by me and inspired by other homeschool moms.)

Chapter 13 is called “The Laboratory on Wheels” and in this chapter Tom now has a business partner. He and his friend James are selling newspapers on the train. He ends up moving his laboratory into a car on the train. He figures he will have time when he is not busy to work on his experiments.

We spent one school day on this chapter.

Day One: Popstar read the chapter and completed the Writing/Discussion Questions in her notebook. After that, we worked on the History/Geography Lesson on The Railway Post Office System. We read over the lesson and talked about how fast mail delivery is now compared to back in Tom’s time.

Next, we moved onto the Science lesson on the Element Phosphorus. We read over the lesson and then got out our Periodic Table of Elements and looked it up on there. We learned what Phosphorus is, who discovered it, where it comes from and what it’s used for.

Last, we went over the Human Relations lesson on problem solving.

That was the end of Chapter 13 for us. Chapter 14 coming up next!

Until next time,
