Back in March, Popstar finished Chapter 11 in her Beyond Five in a Row book, Thomas A. Edison Young Inventor.
(Please note: This post contains lessons from the Beyond Five in a Row Volume 1 Manual as well as activities by me and inspired by other homeschool moms.)
Chapter 11 is called “A Job on A Train” and in this chapter, the Edisons attend a celebration event of the Grand Trunk Railway being completed. Tom is fascinated by the trains and ends up getting a job selling newspapers and candy on the trains. He is hoping that with the money he earns, he will be able to buy more chemicals for his laboratory.
We spent one school day on this chapter.
Day One: Popstar read the chapter and did the Writing/Discussion Questions in her notebook. After that, she read over the Bible lesson which was all about being a hard worker.
Next, we worked on the History/Geograpy Lesson on Steam Locomotives. We added the invention of the Steam Locomotive to our Timeline Notebook.
After that, we talked about steam engines using coal to run and so I got out our coal samples that we had gotten from the American Coal Foundation. You can look into getting one (free!) HERE!
We then moved onto the Language lesson on Similes and Metaphors and the Human Relations lesson on Being Helpful.
That finished up Chapter 11 for us. Trying to get caught up, so hopefully I’ll have Chapter 12 posted soon!
