Chapter 7 in Popstar’s Beyond Five in a Row book, Thomas A. Edison Young Inventor was called “First Day of School.”
(Please note: This post contains lessons from the Beyond Five in a Row Volume 1 Manual and activities added by me and inspired by other homeschool moms.)
In this chapter, Tom has his first day of school. He walks a half a mile to the school house. Tom does not have a very good first day. He gets in trouble for drawing instead of doing his penmanship and is sent to the corner. His lunch is also stolen, but Tom does make a new friend, Michael Oates.
We spent only one school day on this chapter.
Day One: Popstar read the chapter and worked on the Writing/Discussion Questions in her notebook. After that, we went over the History/Geography lesson on One-Room Schoolhouses. We’ve done so much with Little House and Pioneer times that this is a subject Popstar already knows a lot about. So we briefly went over the lesson and looked it up in this book:
After that, we did the Language lesson on Penmanship. I had gotten this calligraphy set for her to try and she thought it was really neat.
We talked about what Penmanship is and what Calligraphy is and how things have changed over the years with writing.
That was about all we did for Chapter 7. Check back soon to see what all we did with Chapter 8, I hope to have it done soon!
