A quick visit at Fort Frederick near Frederick, MD

A few weekends ago when we traveled to Pennsylvania to bring my father-in-law down to stay with us, we heard from Jason’s cousin about a really neat Fort in Frederick, Maryland. It was a very short trip and we didn’t have a lot of extra time, but we needed to stop for the kids to stretch their legs and this happened to be along the way so we couldn’t resist! Jason and I love anything to do with history and so this was really awesome, we both said we could’ve stayed all day but we only had about an hour to spare. I thought I would share a few pictures with you…

Being a Maryland girl, it was wonderful to see that Maryland state flag flying high!!

This Fort dates back to the 1700’s and has been used in the French & Indian War, Revolutionary War and the Civil War. It is also unique because it’s shaped like a 4 pointed star.

Inside the Fort they had reconstructed what the soldiers living quarters looked like. They had 2 large buildings and almost every room was set up like it would’ve been when they used it. It was really neat!

So that was about all for our short visit at Fort Frederick! We would’ve loved to spend an entire day here, but we just didn’t have the time. Maybe someday we can go back and stay longer! If you are ever in that area, I highly recommend you check it out! You won’t be disappointed, especially if you love historical places like we do.

Until next time,

  1. What a fun trip! I just wanted to point out that Fort Frederick is not actually in Frederick. The fort is in Big Pool which is in Washington County. Frederick is about 45 minutes East. If you are ever passing through the Frederick area I would love to suggest some great stops!
    1. Hi Melissa! Thanks so much for your comment and for the information. I am sorry I got the location wrong. We do pass through there some on visits to family, so I would love to find out about some other places! Thanks again!
