Easter weekend, we made a quick trip to Pennsylvania to bring my father-in-law down for a visit. Since we live in South Carolina, that is a very long drive. So we decided to stop in at Mt. Airy, NC along the way to stretch our legs some. This town is so neat! It is the hometown of Andy Griffith and they have all kinds of neat things to see and do.
I thought I would share with you some pictures from our time there.
Snappy Lunch restaurant is very famous we were told, for their pork sandwiches. They said that people drive from many miles away to come eat there. We had already eaten lunch, so we didn’t try out the food but we could see that there was a huge crowd there!
We did have a lot of fun at Opie’s Candy Store. They sell their candy by the pound and so we filled a bag with all different kinds. The kids had a blast doing that! (The parents enjoyed it too!)
We had to visit the Mayberry Courthouse. It was set up like the TV show, with the jail cells and Andy’s desk. That was a lot of fun!
They had Squad Car rides and Wally’s Service Center, along with the Darlin’s Truck.
The last thing we saw was the statue of Andy and Opie outside the Andy Griffith Playhouse.
We had such a great time. I would recommend this little town if you live near North Carolina or are traveling along I81, it’s definitely worth looking into for a stop to stretch your legs!
