The Boxcar Children, Chapter 12 (BYFIAR)

Popstar finished up Chapter 12 of The Boxcar Children for Beyond Five in a Row for Homeschool awhile back.  She’s getting so close to the end of the book, only one more chapter after this one!

Chapter 12 is called “James Henry and Henry James” and in this chapter, the children are finally reunited with their grandfather! He comes to visit the Boxcar and the children spend some time with him at his house.

We spent two school days on this chapter.

Day One: Popstar read the chapter and worked on her Writing/Discussion Question in her notebook. Just as a reminder, these W/D questions are just for a review to make sure she’s getting what the chapter is about, etc.

Next we went over the History/Geography lesson on Names and Lineage. Henry was named after his grandfather and so we talked about how Popstar got her name as well as her siblings and other people in our family.

For Human Relations, we talked about how Dr. Moore took good care of the children, even though he didn’t have to. We call this “Going the extra mile”. We talked about ways that we can do that for others as well.

Day Two: We went over the other Human Relations lesson on Seeing Past Differences and how everyone is different and it’s important to look past our differences and see people for who they really are and appreciate what makes them unique. We also talked about moving (since the children would be moving out of their boxcar to live with their grandfather) and how hard it can be to move to a new place.

Lastly, we went over the Fine Arts lesson on Design. We looked up what floor plans are and Popstar drew floor plans for what she thought the grandfather’s house may have looked like.

That was all for Chapter 12! Popstar is moving on to Chapter 13 next, the final chapter in this book!
