I just finished reading my second book for Summer Reading. Made to Crave by Lysa Terkeurst is such an amazing book!

All my life I have battled with being overweight and trying to lose weight, so this book really touched on some heart strings for me. The basic theme of the book is that God made us to crave Him, not food or anything else. She goes through all of the issues we deal with regarding food and really makes you feel like she understands how hard it is.

She talks about how we don’t need to go on a “diet”, lose weight, then when we get to our goal weight go back to eating like we did before. But we need to make permanent changes in our lifestyle about food and eating as well as to look at food differently. We need to make our relationship with God more important than food and be willing to make sacrifices to keep our body healthy and strong.

As I went through the book, I kept a list of ideas, scriptures and thoughts that stuck out to me. I have this list in my phone and plan to print it out as well. I hope to read it often for motivation. A few things on that list are that I need to pray each time I’m tempted to eat something I know I shouldn’t and keep asking God every single day to help me make food choices that I can be proud of, not feel ashamed of. Also that God should be my daily portion, not food.

I began a journey 18 months ago. After my youngest child was born, my weight kept going up and up for several years. At one point, I reached my lifetime heaviest weight and just felt like I had enough of the battle. I prayed and asked God to help me turn things around because I didn’t want to keep going the way that I was. Since that day, I have lost 35 pounds. My weight has gone up and down some and at one point I was down by 43 pounds. After reading this book, I am more determined than ever to continue with getting healthy and through this drawing closer to God. I feel so much stronger and have so much more energy than I used to. I hope to lose more weight, but I’m taking it one day at a time.

Blessings,

Amy
