Yesterday we went to the Museum of York County for one of their summer programs. They have a brand new Dinosaur Exhibit right now and they have a series of programs all summer that go along with that. This week it was Dinosaur Art. The kids had a lot of fun creating all kinds of Dinosaur Art. We went with our cousins and had a great time!
I turned 40 years old this last Wednesday. I used to look at people who were that age and laugh, thinking it would be so long before I was even close to that age. And now here I am.
Well, I can honestly say it feels a lot different than I used to think it would. I think that each and every thing we go through, whether it’s wonderful and amazing or it’s traumatic and devastating, each situation changes us in some way and molds us and makes us into who we are. We have a choice to make every single day whether we’re going to let trials and problems change us for the good or bad.
I think back on all the big, life-changing events in my life. My high school graduation, meeting my (future) husband for the first time, my wedding day, finding out I was pregnant for the first time, becoming a mother, saying goodbye to my beloved grandparents. Each and every one of those times have been filled with many different emotions and I have walked away from each situation a different person.
I’m not depressed to be 40, I know a lot of people make fun of turning 40 and how we’re getting old. I have decided that my 40’s are going to be my best decade yet. I’ve been through a lot and grown and I know so much more now than I did when I was 20 and now is my chance to enjoy life to the fullest. I have a wonderful, amazing husband and 4 beautiful children. I am truly blessed and have so much to be thankful for.
Birthday Cake my neighbors gave me!

Beautiful gift from hubby…you can’t see it very well, but it is a beautiful owl pendant necklace. He really surprised me!
Our Sunday night dessert was chosen by Daddy this week. It’s called Apple Pie Bake. He first found this as a video on Facebook and I looked up the recipe and found it here: Tasty…Buzz Feed. Daddy loves any dessert that has apple in it! This one turned out really yummy! This would be a great dessert recipe for a 4th of July picnic!
We celebrated Father’s Day yesterday! We visited my Dad for lunch after church and then spent the rest of the day at home. It was very nice to relax at home and enjoy being with Daddy. We picked up a cake and subs at Walmart for dinner so we didn’t have to worry about doing any cooking. I’m just so thankful to have such a wonderful father for my children. He truly loves his family and does everything he can to be the best dad he can be. We are so blessed!
I hope you all enjoyed your Father’s Day and try to find a way to show your Dad how much you love him and are thankful for him! It’s also a great time to remember how much our Heavenly Father has done for us. God is so good to us every single day.
Last week the kids attended the Vacation Bible School at a local church, Ebenezer Presbyterian. This is not our home church, but we love this church’s VBS program and this was our 5th summer attending. They do their VBS in the morning, from 9am-noon. It is really hard to find a church doing daytime VBS these days, it seems like most churches do them at night. Anyway, this church does such an amazing job with their VBS program and the kids LOVE it! Their theme this year was “Come Dig In And Grow With Us”, so the whole week was all about gardens basically. They learned about the Garden of Eden, the Garden of Gethsemane, the Fruit of the Spirit, the Parable of the Sower and the verses about how God is the vine and we are the branches. It was a wonderful week and the kids had so much fun!
I have finished my first Summer Reading Book, West From Home by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
We voted this past Tuesday in South Carolina on some primary issues. When Daddy got home from work, he surprised the kids and told them after we voted we could go get a SnoCone! Boy, were they excited! It turned into a very fun Family Night where we could teach the kids a little about voting and then go have a fun treat. If you look closely, you may be able to see the kids wearing their “I Voted” stickers!
I have a brand new dessert recipe for you today! This past Sunday it was Flash’s turn to choose the dessert and help make it. He picked out a good one…Peanut Butter Cheesecake Brownies…doesn’t get much better than that, does it? He had a lot of fun making it and they turned out so yummy! He found the recipe through Pinterest at this blog: Crazy for Crust. You can check out my Pinterest Dessert Board HERE. I have 260 desserts pinned right now…everything imaginable. I LOVE Pinterest! I have found so many great things on there!
unless you are my mom, sister or hubby, then you perhaps may already know most of these. But this will challenge even those who know me. 🙂
So here goes……..
As Spring is wrapping up, I thought I’d share some of the books we enjoyed reading this Spring. It is such a wonderful time of year, with new life and growth in the land as well as baby animals and Easter. Some of these books we own and others we checked out from the library…we LOVE the library! I have linked to Amazon for each book, so you can see what it looks like and the description of each book. They were all great reads for Preschool and Elementary ages.
